NOMA Colorado offers two scholarships to assist those in our community: the NOMA National Conference Scholarship, which pays for attendance at NOMA National’s annual conference, and the Level Up Scholarship, which provides support for continuing education.

Support for continuing education

To support NOMA Colorado chapter members in their continuing education goals by providing financial assistance for professional development. The program aims to foster the development and advancement of minority architects, interior designers, and allied
professionals in line with NOMA’s mission.

NOMA National Scholarship Program

Join more than 1,500 professional designers, students and partners from across the globe as we EXCHANGE through conversation, educational seminars, community exploration, and networking events to share perspectives that influence the future of the built environment.

We are excited to host Conference 2024 in Baltimore, a vibrant and diverse historic community located along the Chesapeake Bay.

Eligibility Requirements

Application deadline: Extended to October 6th, 2024

  • Applicant MUST be a NOMA CO member in Good Standing
  • Applicant MUST apply before application deadline
  • Applicant MUST be involved with NOMA CO Chapter
  • Chapter Committees, Event Attendance, Chapter Volunteer

Criteria to Apply

  • The application MUST be submitted to the NOMA CO Executive Board no later than October 6th.
  • Applications submitted on time will be reviewed by the NOMA CO Executive Reviewal Committee.
  • Accepted applicants will be notified by October 9th.
  • All accepted applicants will be required to confirm attendance no later than October 11th.

Application Procedure

  • The applicant will be required to submit a brief paragraph describing why they would like to attend the conference, their involvement with the NOMA CO Chapter, and how they plan to spend the financial support from NOMA CO, if accepted.
  • The applicant will be required to submit a brief event recap, due 2 weeks from the last day of the conference, describing key takeaways from the event. The submission must include 1 photo from the event attended.
  • All questions on application will be answered in full and honestly.

Level-Up Scholarship Program

To support NOMA Colorado chapter members in their continuing education goals by providing financial assistance for professional development. The program aims to foster the development and advancement of minority architects, interior designers, and allied professionals in line with NOMA’s mission.

NOMA Colorado’s Mission

  • The historical significance of NOMA and its founding members’ dedication to fighting discriminatory policies and advancing minority architects.
  • The ongoing mission to build strong national and local chapters, increase minority representation in the design professions, and advocate for social, political, and economic equity.
  • The importance of professional development and continuing education in achieving these goals and fostering the next generation of leaders in architecture and design.

By integrating these elements, the Level-Up Scholarship Program will not only support the professional growth of NOMA Colorado members but also honor the legacy and mission of NOMA’s founders.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be a current member of NOMA Colorado.
  • Must be pursuing continuing education in architecture, interior design, urban planning,
    community advocacy, or a related field.
  • Must demonstrate a commitment to promoting justice, equity, and the advancement of
    minority architects, interior designers, and design professionals.
  • Must provide evidence of beginning efforts on pursuing certification or licensure (e.g.,
    registration for exams, coursework, or related activities).

Application Process

  • Personal statement (500-700 words) outlining educational and professional goals,
    alignment with NOMA Colorado’s mission, and commitment to advancing minority
    architects, interior designers, and addressing issues of racism and equity in the
    profession.
  • Two letters of recommendation (at least one from a professional in the field or a NOMA member).
  • Provide Resume/CV.
  • Optional: Portfolio of work (if applicable).

Award Distribution

Twice annually

  • Announce scholarship recipients at the annual NOMA Colorado meeting or event.
  • Distribute funds directly to the educational institution or reimbursed to the recipient upon
    submission of proof of payment and detailed expenses.

Selection Committee

  • Alignment of goals with NOMA Colorado’s mission and the historical context of NOMA’s
    creation.
  • Demonstrated commitment to justice, equity, and the advancement of minority architects
    and interior designers.
  • Professional achievements and potential for growth.
  • Quality and completeness of the application,
